Buvette

Buvette is one of our favorite places to eat in Greenwich Village, as it feels like you’ve stepped right into historic Paris. Buvette takes its aesthetic inspiration from Parisian cafés, so it’s a go-to stop if you live in Greenwich Village and love French food.

The restaurant’s interior is impeccably decorated, and its seasonal menu items are well-chosen and prepared all year round. Naturally, Buvette offers excellent beverages as well, whether you are in the mood for a warm cup of coffee or espresso or you are of a mind for a glass of wine.

Note: It can be difficult to snag a reservation for this in-demand spot, and you may still have to wait some time for your table to free up. As such, you might consider making a reservation for this Greenwich Village restaurant well ahead of your arrival.

Minetta Tavern

Next, there’s Minetta Tavern. First opened in 1937, this famous Greenwich Village restaurant has served many famous individuals, ranging from Ernest Hemingway to E. E. Cummings. These days, Minetta Tavern offers some of the most delicious American cuisine you’ve ever eaten, including the titular Minetta burger.

Not only does the Tavern provide top-tier eats, but it also provides an atmosphere and ambiance that is notable for its comfort. It features cozy leather booths, waiters dressed in waistcoats, and old-school, charming tables with soft, warm light.

Please be advised, however, that you’ll likely need a reservation to eat at Minetta Tavern, so don’t expect to walk in off the street and be seated right away.

Tartine

Tartine is a delightful neighborhood Greenwich Village café offering charming, small-town aesthetic and experience in tandem with delicious sandwiches, steaks, and many other choice cuts. Interestingly, this eatery has a bring your own bottle” (BYOB) policy, meaning you can select your own wine from another establishment and bring it to your table.

Overall, Tartine is a good place to grab a bite in the afternoon or early evening to sate your appetite and avoid rush hour.

Petite Boucherie

Located at the corner of Christopher and Gay, Petite Boucherie is a French restaurant in Greenwich Village that you won’t want to miss. While outwardly similar to Buvette, it’s a bit more upscale and formal.

It’s a cozy, romantic restaurant perfect for dressing up in your finest clothes. It offers delicious French cuisine, croissants, coffee, and some of the best wine selection in all of Greenwich Village. So, if you’re looking for a more upscale French dining experience, look no further! Petite Boucherie delivers, literally and figuratively.

Little Owl

Little Owl has been providing wonderful dining experiences to Greenwich Village locals and tourists for more than fifteen (15) years. This popular restaurant offers both traditional and novel American and seafood dishes, as whipped up by recipes from Chef Joey Campanaro. To that end, the lamb shank dish is one of the best you’ll taste.

That said, Little Owl is also known for its fish dishes, which are all made using fresh seafood. We recommend Little Owl for fans of the iconic TV show Friends (NBC, 1994), too, as the building above it was used for the apartments of the main characters.

Via Carota

Via Carota is run by two chefs, Rita Sodi and Jody Williams. It originally opened in 2014 and quickly became one of Greenwich Village’s most popular restaurants. It’s an Italian eatery that offers an authentic menu, including pasta dishes, grilled octopus or Polipo, and a variety of other meals that any diner would heartily recommend.

Via Carota is a notoriously hard reservation to score. Therefore, you might ironically have a better chance at enjoying this restaurant if you try to walk in and are willing to wait for an hour or more.

Palma

Palma is an Italian restaurant nestled in the heart of Greenwich Village that has excellent outdoor seats (when weather permits). If you do sit outdoors, you’ll be taken to a well-decorated backyard patio that is covered in vines and set up to evoke an authentic Italian ambiance.

Palma is known both for its larger, hardier dishes as well as its salads, such as the Insalata di Stagione. Try eating here for lunch or dinner if you have an Italian craving and are in the area.

Rosemary’s

Rosemary’s is a top Greenwich Village restaurant named after the restaurant owner’s mother. It offers fresh, delicious meals primarily made or seasoned using produce grown by Rosemary’s own staff. To add to this effect, the restaurant boasts a rooftop vegetable garden where many of the items you’ll find on your plate are originally grown.

Furthermore, many of Rosemary’s dishes are seasonal, so they’re only around for a little while before being replaced. This ensures top-tier quality and gives each Rosemary’s visit a bit of newness.

Note: If you’re in the mood for a refreshing cocktail that can’t be beaten, try the Garden Martini.

I Sodi

I Sodi was created by Rita Sodi, one of the two chefs behind Via Carota. This culinary destination is another top Greenwich Village eatery, offering delightful dishes for both locals and for visitors for the first time.

Opened in 2008, I Sodi offers traditional Tuscan dishes such as Raviolo Burro e Salvia and Cotoletta Alla Milanese. Additionally, the menu often reflects seasonally inspired and newer dishes, ensuring that each visit will be novel in some way.

Reservations are, again, quite difficult to get here, but given the quality of the food and the attention to detail of the staff, if you can get into I Sodi, eat up!

Carbone

If you’re looking for another upscale Italian eatery, you can’t miss Carbone. It offers some of the best Italian dishes in the neighborhood, particularly the pasta dishes. Carbone pays homage to great Italian-American restaurants that sprang up all throughout the Big Apple in the mid-20th century.

Known for its elegant atmosphere and comfortable seating arrangements, Carbone may feel upscale, but it’s by no means the most expensive restaurant in Greenwich Village.

Sevilla

Opened in 1936, Sevilla has been serving New York residents for more than (86) years. It’s a Spanish food restaurant offering cuisine and dishes such as tapas and paella. Of particular interest are empanadillas, which are meat-filled turnovers perfect for starting an evening of delicious eating with your friends.

The paella is also popular. This Spanish rice mixed with meat and vegetables can be ordered in a variety of ways, such as with lobster and other seafood. Altogether, it’s a great Greenwich Village establishment that’s perfect for a romantic date or an evening with your friends and family members.

Ristorante Rafele

Ristorante Rafele is run by owners hailing from Naples, Italy. This Greenwich Village restaurant offers seafood, pasta, and a variety of other dishes. One of the most popular is the Fritto Misto, which is made with shrimp, zucchini, fennel, and fried calamari.

Should you visit this establishment, try to secure outdoor seating, which gives you a front-row seat into the image Village atmosphere. The waitstaff is particularly attentive and well-trained, ensuring an excellent dining experience no matter when you sit down.

Dante NYC

Dante NYC can’t be forgotten, either. It offers the most unforgettable Negroni in all of NYC. This Italian restaurant comes with a small bar, so it’s great for those seeing either a full meal or a smaller lunch in the middle of a workday.

You can find this restaurant at the corner of Soho, Greenwich Village, and Hudson Square, making it well-trafficked throughout all hours of the day. Then, for a cocktail, we recommend the Negroni on Tap, which is fairly unique in its texture and taste.

Beatnic West Village

Don’t be fooled by the name. Beatnic West Village is firmly planted in Greenwich Village, and it’s one of the most popular vegan restaurants in the neighborhood. You can find it right on Bleecker Street, fully decorated and ready to go almost 24/7.

Beatnic West Village is stylish, tasty, and well-staffed. Here, you’ll find a delightful variety of different sandwiches, burgers, and salads, all made with 100% vegan, organic ingredients

Also worth noting: The guac burger and magic mushroom salad are two of the most popular dishes here, and the avocado pesto and beet ketchup are popular toppings for pairing with other food items. So, if you’re looking for a terrific eatery and have dietary limitations, make haste and make room; Beatnic West Village is worth it.

Babu Ji

Lastly, consider stopping by for a bite at Babu Ji, located at 22 E. 13th St. This Indian restaurant recently relocated to Greenwich Village after originally operating out of Avenue B. Despite the move and renovations, it’s still as authentic and delicious as ever, offering a self-serve beer fridge, a projector that plays Bollywood movies, and some of the best Indian dishes around.

It’s run by Chef Jessi Singh, whose menu combines modern Indian cuisine with street food. Of particular culinary interest is the Colonel Tso’s cauliflower dish, which is an Indochinese fusion made with flash-fried cauliflower in a chili and spicy tomato sauce.
