New York Safety Resources

The MTA offers safety information for the NYC-area public transportation system, including the Long Island buses, subways, rails, bridges, and tunnels. Information for pedestrians and bicyclists is included here as well.

DOT has created the Safe Routes to Transit program with a goal to improve pedestrian and motor vehicle movement around subway entrances and bus stops to make accessing mass transit easier and more convenient. This site has information regarding sidewalk entrance upgrades into transit areas, as well as safety improvements to bus stops throughout the city.

This provides information regarding the pedestrian safety initiative for older New Yorkers to make New York streets safe from dangers, including pedestrian obstacles, traffic, and crime.

National Safety Resources

The National Floor Safety Institute was founded in 1997 as a not-for-profit organization with a mission to aid in the prevention of slips, trips, and falls through education, research, and standards development. The NFSI board members consist of product manufacturers, insurance underwriters, trade associations, and independent consultants.

The National Safety Council encourages safety and the prevention of injuries and deaths at work, in homes and communities, and on the roads through leadership, research, education, and advocacy

The NIOSH website provides information for preventing slips and falls in workplaces, including construction sites and hospitals.

This code addresses the liability of real property owners for failure to maintain sidewalk in a reasonably safe condition.
