Overview of Hospital: Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, located in an ethnically diverse neighborhood on the border of northern Brooklyn and western Queens, is an independent, not-for-profit 350-bed teaching hospital.
Established in 1889, Wyckoff Heights employs 1,800 physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals. The medical center treats over 75,000 patients every year in the emergency department, delivers approximately 2,000 babies, and supports outpatient services to thousands at a network of community ambulatory care centers.
Wyckoff Heights takes a unique approach to healthcare. While the physicians and other medical staff ensure the patient's medical treatment is managed appropriately, they employ non-clinical staff to see to the mental wellbeing of the patients. These staff members visit with the patients to ensure their comfort needs are met.
The hospital has a 24-hour chapel as well as an ecumenical chaplaincy program to see to the spiritual needs of patients and their families.
Wyckoff is a member of the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System as well as a partner with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. As a teaching hospital, Wyckoff undertakes the responsibility of training new generations of qualified physicians.
