The New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers

Mission Statement

The New York State Academy of Trial Lawyers maintains a strong commitment to protect, preserve and enhance the civil justice system, while working to rebuild and improve the image of our profession.  The Academy’s membership consists of plaintiff and defense attorneys, members of the judiciary, non-judicial government employees, law professors, law clerks, law secretaries, paralegals and law students, each benefiting from the Academy’s comprehensive approach toward advancing our profession while embracing the core values of our legal system.  The Academy’s diverse membership base and strong grassroots network allow us to advocate on a wide array of legislative and political matters.

Academy members enjoy FREE access to our high quality Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs, sufficient to meet and exceed all biennial mandatory requirements.  In addition, members receive our Weekly Department Updates via email.  The Updates review, summarize and hyperlink the most important cases of relevance to our members from each of New York’s four Appellate Divisions each month.  We also host several social and networking events each year.  For example, at this year’s membership reception, keynote speaker Attorney General Andrew Cuomo addressed a crowd of over 150 attorneys, 75 legislators and many other influential decision makers.

As attorneys, we believe it is our collective responsibility to work to protect, preserve and enhance the civil justice system.  We hope you will join with us and many other prominent lawyers from across the state committed to undertaking the fundamental changes that must be made to rebuild our profession.
