Overview of Hospital: Founded in 1929, Westchester Square is a 205-bed, acute care hospital that serves the Bronx and lower Westchester. The hospital is affiliated with the New York-Presbyterian
Healthcare System and provides comprehensive in-patient care, diagnostic testing, and treatment services including cardiology, pulmonary disease management, gastroenterology, geriatrics, and physical therapy, as well as many others. The inpatient facility completed in 1981 offers the best in modern medical and nursing care.
Westchester’s out-patient surgical unit offers patients the ability to undergo a full offering of procedures and return home the same day. Over 1,000 healthcare professionals provide care for over 50,000 patients annually.
Patients who are treated at Westchester Square also have access to the New York-Presbyterian Healthcare System for any additional treatment.

- In the New York State Department of Health’s recently released profiles of hospitals in the state, New York Westchester Square Medical Center ranked number one in the Bronx for the treatment of overall heart failure, and second in both overall pneumonia care and overall heart attack care.
New York Westchester Square in the News: Westchester Square Medical Center is at risk of closing after various merger plans have fallen through in 2009. The hospital has been ordered by the state Department of Health’s Berger Commission to close to stem soaring health costs.
While Westchester is affiliated with New York-Presbyterian Hospital, due to economic reasons Presbyterian was unable to complete an expected merge. St. Barnabas Hospital also declined to merge with the trouble hospital.
