Overview of Hospital: The Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center is a voluntary, not-for-profit institution and member of the Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) and the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS).  Founded in 1925 as a chronic care facility, Kingsbrook has grown to an 864-bed medical training institution, comprised of a 326-bed acute care hospital and a 538-bed adult and pediatric skilled nursing long-term care facility.

Kingsbrook provides an average of 84,000 inpatient days of care, 28,000 emergency room visits and 108,000 outpatient visits each year.  Serving the East Flatbush section of Central Brooklyn, Kingsbrook continually updates its services and programs for the large, culturally diverse communities it serves.

In support of its mission to advance the well-being of the individuals, families and communities Kingsbrook’s Women’s Wellness Center partnered with the Brooklyn Healthy Living Partnership (“BHLP”) to increase access to mammography services to residents of Kingsbrook’s community. The services provide education, mammography, screening coordination, and case management services to minority women aged 40 and older.

Kingsbrook's offers 11 Centers of Excellence including Brooklyn's only New York State licensed Traumatic Brain Injury and Coma Recovery Unit, a Geriatric Inpatient Psychiatry service -- a premiere program serving the mentally challenged elderly throughout the borough, and a Vascular Center offering complete non-invasive vascular assessment.

Specialties: Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center offers the following specialty services:

  • The Kingsbrook Rehabilitation Institute is one of the oldest comprehensive, acute-care programs on the East Coast. The Institute focuses on maximizing function and quality of life for patients who are physically or cognitively challenged as a result of stroke, amputation, spinal cord injury and other debilitating injuries.
  • The Kingsbrook Radiology Department offers the Picture Archiving Communications System (PACS) providing Kingsbrook with a film-less radiology department, voice recognition transcription system resulting in instantaneous turn-around time for radiology reports once dictated by a radiologist, 6-slice CT scanner, and a 64-slice CT scanner allowing for advanced cardiac studies.
  • Kingsbrook's Comprehensive Wound Healing & Hyperbaric Center integrates hyperbaric oxygen therapy with more traditional treatments such as antibiotic, physical and nutritional therapies to treat hard-to-heal wounds.
