At Schwartzapfel Lawyers P.C. we support organizations like the following that offer assistance to families and individuals who find themselves in abusive home situations.

The National Domestic Violence Hotline (NDVH) is a toll free line available 24 hours a day, seven days a week in over 170 languages. The National Domestic Violence Hotline was established in 1996 as a component of the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) passed by Congress. NDVH is a nonprofit organization that provides crisis intervention, information and referral to victims of domestic violence, perpetrators, friends and families. They operate a 24-hour hotline for victims of domestic violence at (800) 799-SAFE (7233).

The Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence dedicates all of its efforts to providing safety and support to family violence victims by offering preventative and supportive services. Their services include a 24-hour hotline, housing for abuse victims, counseling, legal services and educational workshops. Victims of domestic violence can call the 24-Hour Hotline at (631) 666-8833.

The National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV) works to bring about the major societal changes necessary to eliminate both personal and societal violence against all women and children. This organization provides support and resources to local efforts to combat domestic violence.

The New York Mayor’s Office to Combat Domestic Violence, founded in 2001, has two family justice centers, one in Brooklyn and one in Queens, to provide walk-in services to victims of domestic violence. Its hotline is (800) 621-HOPE or one can simply dial the city’s help line, 311.
