Overview of Hospital: Brooklyn City Hospital was established in 1845. Today it's called the Brooklyn Hospital Center. The center has 440 beds, employs close to 3,000 employees, and handles over 220,000 outpatient visits each year.
The Brooklyn Hospital Center maintains a goal of "providing outstanding health services, education, and research to keep the people of Brooklyn and greater New York healthy." In support of this mission the Wellness for Life program was established in 1995 to focus on preventing illness and improving quality of life through exercise, awareness of current medical trends and sound nutrition. The group meets monthly on a range of topics.
TBHC manages five Family Health Centers located throughout Brooklyn offering primary care, surgical care, as well as access to the Program for Aids Treatment & Health. The hospital offers non-denominational pastoral care. Chaplains visit inpatient areas on a regular basis and listen with openness while respecting the patients' and their visitor's personal beliefs.
As a member of the New York Presbyterian Healthcare System as well as a partner with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University, the Brooklyn Hospital Center has access to top-ranking physicians and comprehensive resources.
Specialties: The Brooklyn Hospital Center offers the following services in support of its mission:
