At Schwartzapfel Partners P.C. we support organizations that offer assistance to families and individuals who find themselves in poor housing conditions or with no affordable housing options.

Tenants & Neighbors is a grassroots organization that brings tenants together to help preserve at-risk affordable housing in neighborhoods throughout New York State, and to strengthen tenants; rights at the local, state and national level.

NYC Affordable Housing Resource Center is a government agency that provides information on all aspects of city housing, including assistance with issues such as apartment maintenance problems, renting apartments and buying homes. All of the city’s affordable housing lottery listings can also be accessed via their web site.

Project Hospitality is an interfaith organization that provides assistance to the hungry, homeless or otherwise needy in New York City.

The Housing Court Answers, formerly the City-Wide Task Force on Housing Court, provides information to people involved in Housing Court who do not have lawyers. Housing Court is the main avenue for landlords and tenants to resolve disputes over neglected repairs, unpaid rent, etc. The City-Wide Task Force on Housing Court was a major influence in the reform of the court, fighting to end the tenant blacklist, establish a right to an attorney and require courts to publish basic rights and responsibilities.

Make the Road By Walking is an organization that promotes economic justice, equity and opportunity for all New Yorkers through community and electoral organizing, strategic policy advocacy, leadership development, youth and adult education, and high quality legal and support services. Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a program that assists Brooklyn residents with low and moderate income to secure safe, affordable housing and build financial stability. They can be reached at (718) 686-7946 and .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

The Suffolk County Workforce Housing Commission is addressing the lack of affordable housing in the Long Island area.  The commission has been charged with streamlining the workforce housing permitting process and creating an inventory of potential sites for development of workforce housing. The Nassau County Housing Assistance page includes links to emergency and temporary housing and local low-income housing authorities, including: Village of Freeport Housing Authority; Town of Hempstead Housing Authority; Village of Great Neck Housing Authority;Village of Island Park Senior Housing Authority;City of Long Beach Housing Authority;Town of Oyster Bay Housing;Village of Rockville Centre Housing Authority.
