  • National Highway Traffic Safety Administration | NHTSA
The NHTSA sets and enforces safety performance standards for motor vehicles and motor vehicle equipment. Through the distribution of grants, the NHTSA enables state and local governments to conduct effective highway safety programs.

The NHTSA also investigates safety defects in motor vehicles, sets and enforces fuel economy standards, helps state and local communities reduce the threat of drunk drivers, promotes the use of safety belts, child safety seats and air bags, investigates odometer fraud, establishes and enforces vehicle anti-theft regulations and provides consumer information on motor vehicle safety topics.

  • National Center for Statistics & Analysis | NCSA
The NCSA's goal is to provide data and analysis that will allow a complete understanding of the nature, causes and injury outcomes of crashes and the strategies and interventions that will reduce crashes and their consequences.

NCSA is made up of three divisions; The State Data Reporting Systems Division, The Crash Investigation Division and The Mathematical Analysis Division.  These divisions each contribute to the overall success of meeting NCSA goals and objectives.

  • The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration | FMCSA
The FMCSA's mission is to reduce crashes, injuries and fatalities involving large trucks and buses. FMCSA is headquartered in Washington, DC. and employs more than 1,000 individuals in all 50 states, including the District of Columbia.

The FMCSA develops and enforces data-driven regulations that balance motor carrier safety with industry efficiency, harnesses safety information systems to focus on higher risk carriers in enforcing the safety regulations, targets educational messages to carriers, commercial drivers, and the public; and partners with stakeholders including Federal, State and local enforcement agencies, the motor carrier industry, safety groups and organized labor on efforts to reduce bus and truck-related crashes.

  • The Department of Transportation | DOT
The goal of the US Department of Transportation is to ensure a fast, safe, efficient, accessible and convenient transportation system that meets the national interests and enhances the quality of life of the American people, today and into the future.
