Lundbeck study shows Cipralex better than Seroxat

COPENHAGEN (Reuters) - Danish pharmaceutical group Lundbeck said on Monday new clinical data for its key antidepressant Cipralex showed the drug was superior to GlaxoSmithKline's Seroxat (paroxetine) in the treatment of major depression.

"The data confirms that Cipralex is superior to Seroxat within the treatment of depression", Lundbeck said in a statement.

The study, presented at the International Anxiety Disorders Conference in Stellenbosch, South Africa, was a randomised, double blind, fixed-dose study evaluating Cipralex and Seroxat in the long-term treatment of patients with more severe depressive disorder.

Lundbeck said 229 patients received treatment with Cipralex and 225 patients received treatment with Seroxat, known as Paxil in the United States.
